Tour Overview

Track mountain gorillas in the misty rainforest of Volcanoes National Park, in the Virunga Mountains, home to a habituated population of mountain gorillas. Spending an hour with a gorilla family is the centrepiece of this trip.

This two-day private adventure is built for travelers with limited time who refuse to miss Rwanda's signature experience. Day 1 is a scenic drive from Kigali to the park, an evening at your lodge, and an optional cultural visit (Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village, Musanze Caves, or the Diane Fossey Museum). Day 2 is the highlight: a ranger briefing, then a guided trek of three to six hours through bamboo and montane forest to spend one hour with a gorilla family before returning to Kigali.

The trek is restricted to ages 15 and above and requires a reasonable level of fitness. This package pairs naturally with Akagera's Big Five safaris, Nyungwe's chimpanzees and canopy walks, or Lake Kivu. Request it on its own or as part of a longer Rwanda journey.
