Nyungwe Canopy Walk

Nyungwe's canopy walkway changes how the forest is perceived — from the ground to the treetops above a ravine.

Nyungwe's canopy walkway changes how the forest is perceived. The experience begins on the ground with a guided trail from Uwinka, passing through montane vegetation before reaching the suspended bridge above a forested ravine. From the walkway, the view opens across the upper canopy, revealing the scale and depth that are difficult to appreciate from below.

What the Experience Feels Like

The bridge is only one part of the experience. The approach trail can be wet, steep or muddy, and the structure's height and movement may be uncomfortable for some travelers. Wildlife encounters are possible but should not be promised; the principal value is the perspective on the forest itself.

What to Expect

  • •Guided forest approach
  • •Uneven and potentially muddy trail
  • •Height and bridge movement
  • •Wide canopy and ravine views
  • •Weather-dependent operating conditions

Who It Suits

Travelers with reasonable mobility who are comfortable with heights. Current age and access rules must be confirmed.

When to Go

Year-round, subject to weather and park operations. Drier conditions may make the approach easier.

The walkway pairs well with another Nyungwe activity, but transfers and activity timing must be checked before combining them.
