Take the evening to relax or explore local dining options, letting the anticipation build for the wildlife encounters and cultural explorations that await.

Start the day with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where a self-guided tour leads you through Rwanda’s resilient history and the powerful journey of unity and peace. Following this reflective experience, savor a local lunch, then embark on a picturesque drive north to the Cyanika border. Cross into Uganda, where the scenery shifts as you approach Bwindi National Park, your home for the night. Settle into your lodge, surrounded by the sounds of the forest, and enjoy a relaxing evening with a delicious dinner as you prepare for tomorrow’s unforgettable gorilla trek.

Awaken to the sounds of the forest, ready for the day’s adventure. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll journey to the park base for a briefing from expert rangers, who guide you into Bwindi’s lush rainforest. The forest, alive with birdsong and the earthy scents of the rainforest, draws you deeper until—there they are, a family of mountain gorillas. From the silverback’s protective watch to the curious playfulness of young gorillas, this intimate hour in their presence is both humbling and awe-inspiring.

Return to your lodge to refresh and unwind. For those seeking additional experiences, optional activities like community visits or birdwatching can be arranged, enriching your day’s adventure before another restful evening at your lodge.

After breakfast, cross the border back into Rwanda with a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park. Here, Inland Africa Safaris introduces you to the Dian Fossey Museum, where you’ll learn about the impactful conservation efforts that protect Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. The stories and artifacts offer a deeper understanding of your encounters and reinforce the significance of preserving this precious habitat. By evening, you arrive at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, ready for the golden monkey trek that awaits.

On your final day, an enchanting trek into Volcanoes National Park awaits, where you’ll have the chance to see Rwanda’s lively golden monkeys. Guided by an expert, you step into the mist-laden forest, where soft morning light filters through towering trees and dense foliage. The mist lends an ethereal beauty to the forest, and shafts of sunlight cast gentle, dappled light across the ground.

Suddenly, flashes of vibrant orange and black appear as the golden monkeys dart playfully through the branches, their chatter filling the air. For over an hour, you’re immersed in their world, captivated by their antics as they leap, swing, and occasionally pause to curiously study you in return. Each moment with these spirited creatures is a joyful immersion into the heart of the forest—a fitting and unforgettable finale to your wildlife encounters.

After this magical experience, you’ll return to your lodge to enjoy a refreshing lunch and complete check-out. The journey back to Kigali offers time for reflection, with the memory of misty forests, gentle gorillas, and vibrant golden monkeys following you—a reminder of Rwanda’s wild beauty and the profound connections you’ve made with its extraordinary landscapes and wildlife.

3. What is included in the tour cost?

This approach ensures that you can fully relax and immerse yourself in the experience without having to worry about extra costs.

4. What is the best time of year for this tour?

Rwanda and Uganda offer year-round access to the wonders of their forests and wildlife. However, the dry seasons (June–September and December–February) offer ideal trekking conditions, as the trails tend to be less muddy. Each season has its charm, and we’re happy to discuss the pros and cons of each to help you plan the perfect time for your adventure.

5. What level of physical fitness is required for trekking?

Gorilla and golden monkey trekking involve moderate hiking, often through uneven terrain in a rainforest environment. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, and our guides set a comfortable pace with regular rest stops to ensure you enjoy the experience fully. If you have any concerns, please reach out—our team will provide tailored advice to prepare you.

6. Is it safe to travel in Rwanda and Uganda?

Both Rwanda and Uganda are among the safest travel destinations in Africa. Our tours are designed with your safety in mind, and we partner closely with local guides, experienced rangers, and national park authorities. Our guides are with you every step of the way, ensuring that each part of your journey is secure, comfortable, and worry-free.

7. What type of accommodation is included, and can I upgrade?

Our packages include stays at high-quality mid-range lodges and hotels that combine comfort with authentic local charm. Should you wish for a more luxurious experience, we offer a variety of upgrade options to suit your style. Just let us know your preferences, and we’ll handle the arrangements to make sure your stay is memorable and perfectly suited to you.

8. Are meals included, and can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, meals are included during your stay in national parks, and breakfast is provided at your accommodation in Kigali. We accommodate a wide range of dietary preferences and restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-sensitive diets. Simply inform us in advance, and we’ll coordinate with our partners to ensure your meals are enjoyable and suitable.

9. What health precautions should I take before the trip?

We recommend consulting your doctor before traveling, especially regarding vaccinations or medications appropriate for tropical regions. Additionally, travel insurance that includes health coverage is advised. For your peace of mind, we are prepared with a medical emergency plan that includes helicopter evacuation to the nearest hospital in Kigali if necessary.

10. How does the gorilla permit work, and is it included in the package?

Yes, the gorilla trekking permit is included in our tour packages and covers entry to the park, a guided trek, and one hour with the gorillas. We arrange all permits in advance to ensure your experience is as smooth and seamless as possible.

11. Do I need a tourist visa to visit Rwanda and Uganda?

Yes, most travelers will need a tourist visa for both Rwanda and Uganda. The East Africa Tourist Visa is a convenient option, covering entry to Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya for up to 90 days on a single application. This visa is available online or upon arrival in each country. We recommend confirming the latest visa requirements with your nearest consulate or reaching out to our team for guidance.

14. How close will I get to the gorillas and golden monkeys?

During your trekking experience, you’ll observe the animals from a safe distance of approximately seven meters, allowing you to witness their behavior intimately while ensuring both your safety and theirs. This close proximity provides a unique, humbling experience with minimal impact on the wildlife.

15. What if it rains on the day of the trek?

Rain is common in the rainforest, adding to the atmosphere and beauty of the forest. Trekking will continue regardless of weather, and our guides will ensure you are comfortable. We recommend bringing waterproof clothing and gear, which we can advise on to help you stay dry and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

16. How are permits managed for African nationals?

We are happy to secure discounted permits for Rwandan, East African, and other African nationals. If you belong to one of these groups, please reach out to us for tailored itinerary options and permit rates that align with your preferences.

18. What is the cancellation policy for this package?

While Inland Africa Safaris strives to offer flexibility in travel arrangements, it’s important to note that gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are strictly non-refundable once issued. These permits are managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), and due to the limited number of daily permits available, they are in high demand.

Once a permit is booked and confirmed, it cannot be canceled or refunded, regardless of the reason for cancellation. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to have your travel plans finalized before securing your permit to avoid any potential inconvenience.

For other aspects of your tour, such as accommodation, transportation, or other activities, cancellations are subject to Inland Africa Safaris' general cancellation policy:

  • Cancellations made more than 60 days prior to the tour date: Refunds may be issued minus any non-refundable costs (such as permits and certain deposit fees).
  • Cancellations made within 60 days of the tour date: Refunds are not guaranteed and are subject to the policies of the accommodation providers and partners involved in the tour.
  • Force Majeure: In case of unexpected events such as natural disasters or government restrictions, we will work with you to reschedule your trip or offer alternatives, although permit-related fees remain non-refundable.

We recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that includes coverage for trip cancellations, delays, and medical emergencies. This ensures that your investment is protected, even in unforeseen circumstances.
